It’s been a crazy year. There have been some good months and some bad ones, a global pandemic and the most catastrophic presidency in the United States in my lifetime. It hasn’t all be great economically, either. I’ve had my $10,000 months and I got lazy for a while and had had some weaker months. That’s how freelancing goes, and it’s especially how it goes when you write for Medium. I’m OK with it and just accept the ebbs and flows as part of the gig.
When it comes to writing, change is the only constant. You win some months…
Calling all professional and amateur writers alike, I wanted to talk about how I made $9,000 from writing in December of 2020, so I could give you a glance into how I’m making it out here these days.
The end of 2020 was a tumultuous time for everyone. The virus raged on. We were locked down and, us writers being people who need stimulation more often than not, the quarantines were starting to weigh heavily on us. That’s when a lot of people I know began to struggle with their writing. We writers need stimulation.
A lot of people have…
It’s been a long time coming. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Combating Public Disorder Act into law, today, a law that was drafted on January 7th, 2021, in the wake of the Capitol riots in Washington D.C as Governor DeSantis denounced the events at the Capitol.
But the birth of the idea began long before that, in the late summer of 2020, as America faced nationwide protests in the wake of the alleged murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. And now, the threat of more protests looms overhead.
After a wave of protests swept the country…
Have you wondered what you’ll do if the sites you write for were to ever go down? What would happen to, say, all of the Substack writers if Substack announced tomorrow that they were going out of business?
Many of them would hopefully still have their email lists to fall back on, but if you close your eyes and envision this happening to you, whether you write for Substack or Medium, or any other platform, it only takes a moment before you realize the nightmare you’d be in for.
I know I spent a long time secretly terrified of what…
I was in Los Angeles at the time and lived a short distance from the chaos that ensued in the wake of the Rodney King beating. As a young boy, this experience shaped my budding mind. I’ll never forget the video of Rodney King crawling on his knees being beaten by police. I’ll never forget the way the world was upended for me after the officers involved were cleared of any wrongdoing. The streets became a warzone.
Almost exactly twenty years later, I’d be thrust into a similar situation living in Sanford, Florida, when a young unarmed boy by the…
So you’ve decided you want to boost your Twitter visibility? Congratulations. It seems you’ve ended up in the right place. I’m going to assume you’re starting from scratch as I was when I first decided I need to get this aspect of my life figured out. I’m tired of failing at Twitter.
Twitter is such an essential tool to getting your message out there that one’s tempted to say it’s indispensable. But at the same time, it probably seems daunting to you as you try to learn the ins and outs of a platform that’s very different from its competitors.

“Can I go down on you?” I asked, staring her straight in the eyes. Honestly, it was a perfect moment. The air felt electric. My body was bestirred with flowing hormones, each breath being taken a little deeper than usual, my pulse quickened as I froze like a statue. Our gazes met as I finally worked up the courage to spit out the words I’d been wanting to say for the past fifteen minutes.
She was a close friend of mine, so we were already quite close. …
In the past few weeks, two names have been all over the national news twenty-four seven. Those names are Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg and Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz. As the allegations against them ramp up, the national media is just now catching wind of the craziness that we’ve been reading about here in Florida for over a year.
It’s a scandal eerily reminiscent of the one that brought down the disgraced millionaire Jeffrey Epstein, complete with children being flown on private planes to accompany adults while they engage in unethical — not to mention illegal — behavior.
It…
In what ended up being a long and tumultuous legislative process, a few days ago, Arkansas became the first state to ban medical treatment for transgender youth. At first, the bill was put forth and subsequently passed by the Arkansas state legislature. It seemed like the bill was on the fast track to becoming the first of its kind in outright banning youth gender-confirming care.
That’s when Arkansas’ Republican governor, Asa Hutchinson, stepped in. He vetoed the bill in what many have described as a surprise. …
It torments me. I feel so helpless, so speechless, so impotent. Sometimes I have no idea what to tell my dateless friends when they humble themselves and ask for advice. Many of these men are in their thirties, the time of life when people usually have the most sex.
I empathize with the pain they’re experiencing and I start to feel it myself. Sexlessness, when it’s not something we chose, is a painful open wound that festers on our hearts.
I’ve had a few years of sexlessness in my day and let me tell you, it felt awful. …
